This quick and powerful read is well planned-out and delivers a holistic approach to increasing business performance. Most business books focus on what amounts to improving business processes - which are indeed important. Many business books provide great insight into improving business performance. However, in my experience as an executive coach focusing on improving my clients' behaviors, most business books either don't address the "people" aspect of business head-on, or they treat it as a marginally important issue that somehow will be rectified after business processes are improved and performance management systems are in place. Nothing could be further from the truth. Poor processes and poor performance are the result of poor behaviors and/or well-intentioned but misguided behaviors. How many times have you heard managers say, "we tried process improvement but it didn't work for us?", or, "our new performance management system hasn't helped us?" These are common symptoms of behaviors that need fixing.Behavior is the cause -- all else is the effect. Rubi Ho is all about that -- and he delivers this message strongly in his book. "Business health" is a common sense concept that Rubi explains in clear and simple terms. I wish more businesses would understand "business health" and quit complicating the lives of their employees.

Many Parts One Body Healthier Leaders Healthier Teams A Healthier You Rubi Ho 9781502771759 Books Reviews
Rubi’s book is a very good and quick read. Rubi’s experience and expertise is well documented and well received here. There are a lot of books out there that will tell you it’s all about communication in the workplace and will give a “checklist” of what should happen and you should resolve issues immediately; but Rubi goes into a great deal of length to communicate on a much more intimate level and explain the why behind it, rather than saying “Because I Said So!” I get the feeling there is something in the water when people are open and honest when sharing openly with Rubi, because he ultimately knows it is not about him.
I love the title of this book - Many Parts, One Body. Rubi Ho addresses the many parts that make up "one body", i.e., your business, and identifies issues that are the root cause of unhealthy organizations. He is straight forward and candid. No sugar-coating. I like how he shares personal stories to demonstrate his practical experience with specific problems within an organization. Then, he tells how he helped the organization come to a solution. Practical and applicable. I found myself nodding in agreement many times. The book is full of helpful nuggets and statements of wisdom.

I recently finished reading “Many Parts One Body” by Rubi Ho. There are so many good concepts in the book it is difficult to say what my biggest takeaways are. I really like the graphics that are used to show the Typical Organizational Model and the Strategic Leadership Health Model. They visually show the differences between internal and external functions and the importance of all functions working together for the overall health of the organization. I have already used the diagrams in discussions on the topic of reducing conflict that is inherent within organizations.
From a personal standpoint the concept that stands out the most for me was the concept of working in your wheelhouse or power zone. Since I sometimes try to do too many varied things it was a good reminder of the benefit of staying in the power zone.
The book is great for people in leadership roles, but it is also good for individuals as it causes them to consider what they do on a daily basis and how it affects the organization and their own careers.
“The bottom line – leadership is earned and not granted,” - one of many “tweetable” moments in Many Parts. One Body – Healthier leaders, Healthier Teams, A Healthier YOU.” Rubi Ho provides leaders, organizational development practitioners, human resources professionals and people eager to learn about organizational health a blueprint on factors to consider for operational excellence. He masterfully leverages his experience and insight to give us just what the doctor ordered – a prescription for what to know, understand and do as it relates to strategic leadership.
I was immediately able to implement suggestions and dog ear pages to share with friends and colleagues. In the book, Rubi discusses executive presence and the importance of having it in the workplace – it’s just one strategic levers professionals can use to move the business forward, influence outcome and achieve the business result. The quick read, will have you compelled to learn and implement more and be a strong leader. Like a good physician, Rubi doesn’t just place a bandage over leadership flaws, he exposes them and provides tactics and tools to heal and ultimately achieve optimal health.
Great job, Rubi. Now can we have a workshop?
Many Parts, One Body is a must read for not only leaders of an organization, but anyone who wants to become a change agent. The book is very easy to read, yet packed full of powerful, practical tools that really make a difference. Having worked with Rubi in the past, I can attest to the success that can be obtained if you’re willing to deal with difficult issues and people when necessary.
Rubi Ho is truly a great coach!!
When it comes to organizational health, Rubi Ho is the doctor. In fact, he's a very highly skilled specialist! Performance in all organizations is key to success. Rubi defines the three types of performance, i.e. business, functional, and leadership. For organizations to be healthy, all members of the group must meet expectations for performance in all three of these domains. Rubi makes this important concept very clear and concise. This is an excellent read for organizational leaders who want to become really great leaders. If implemented, it will have positive impact on your organization.
